We exclusively serve nonprofit institutions, delivering a combination of investment management with donor development consulting
Foundations, endowments and nonprofits all face unprecedented challenges in today’s economic environment – complex regulations that change frequently, escalating expenses that detract from investment returns and global forces that shape market behavior. Confronted with needing to do more with less, institutions seek a different level of strategic investment consulting or discretionary asset management. They want an experienced advisory team who can deliver both, while providing holistic advice and guidance to their leaders, board members and donors.
At The Aegis Group at Morgan Stanley, we offer a distinct alternative.
For over 25 years, we have been exclusively serving nonprofit institutions across the country, delivering a unique combination of investment management with donor development consulting. We are seasoned professionals who have spent our entire careers in the foundation and endowment arena, not only as consultants but as practitioners and board members. Our name is inspired by the Greek word aigis, which means “something that offers protection.” In some mythological stories, it was a shield carried by Zeus. In others, it was an animal skin worn over the garments of the gods as extra protection. The modern concept of doing something “under someone’s aegis” means doing something under the protection of a powerful, knowledgeable or benevolent source.
At The Aegis Group, we follow one simple rule: Help protect the endowment wealth of your institution.
Our Investment Philosophy
Our commitment to our clients and their success is the cornerstone of our practice. We come to work every day engaged in making a true difference in the lives of our clients and the organizations they proudly support. To that end, we are focused on the following core elements of our investment philosophy:
• Action should be taken through discipline, not emotion.
• Managing total portfolio risk is essential to achieving long-term objectives.
• We believe in an open architecture structure, which frees us to recommend any available products and services that best suits our clients’ specific situations and goals.
• Endowment management must provide short-term stability and long-term sustainability.
• Actively managing asset allocation, portfolio composition and manager selection can potentially enhance returns.
• Active risk budgeting can enhance the potential value derived from hiring investment managers.
• Blending active and passive investments can help improve investment results, manage costs and refine the management of active risk.
We combine Morgan Stanley’s intellectual capital and global reach with our own insight to create and deliver targeted institutional solutions. We are confident our team is qualified to anticipate and help address your particular financial goals.
We believe financial education leads to better insight into our investment strategy and discipline, and ultimately, better long-term results. As a result, we are committed to providing ongoing information about managing your organization’s assets more effectively in today’s global markets. We are also focused on helping you explore how charitable giving is being redefined in more effective and meaningful ways.
To that end, we have assembled the following articles, white papers and financial tools about many of the concepts that support our philanthropic philosophy and investment strategies.
